Comfort Colors 1717 sizing: how it actually fits

Ordering the wrong size is the single most common reason a shirt comes back. It is also the one return reason we cannot cover the shipping on, so it is worth two minutes before you buy.

The cut

The Comfort Colors 1717 is a relaxed unisex shirt. Not a men's fit, not a women's fit, and not a modern slim tee. It runs generously through the chest and shoulders and sits a little longer in the body than a standard retail tee.

Two rules solve most of it:

  • Want your usual roomy tee? Order your usual size.
  • Want it closer to the body? Order one size down.

If you are between sizes and want a boxy look you can tuck or leave out, size up. If you are between sizes and want something fitted, size down.

Measure a shirt you already own

This is more reliable than measuring yourself. Take a tee that fits the way you want this one to fit, lay it flat, smooth the wrinkles out, and measure in inches:

  1. Chest width. Straight across from one underarm seam to the other. Do not double it.
  2. Body length. From the highest point of the shoulder, beside the collar, straight down to the bottom hem.

The measurements

Manufacturer specifications for a garment laid flat, in inches. Cut-and-sew production carries a tolerance of roughly one inch either way.

Size Chest width (flat) Body length
S 18" 28"
M 20" 29"
L 22" 30"
XL 24" 31"
2XL 26" 32"
3XL 28" 33"
4XL 30" 34"

Not every color comes in every size

Because each shirt is printed after it is ordered rather than held in stock, the size range differs by design and by color. Black and white run the full S through 4XL. The other thirteen dyes are carried in a narrower range.

The product page is always the authority: pick a color and the sizes that actually exist in it will show. That is deliberate — we would rather you see the real range while choosing than discover it at checkout.

Shrinkage

The cotton is pre-shrunk, so washing cold and tumble drying low should cause very little change. Hot water and a hot dryer will shrink any 100% cotton shirt, and that is not treated as a defect.
